New Building

New Shelter Building
Amelia County's new animal shelter is expected to open in early 2027. The facility is larger than the current shelter, with increased capacity to meet the needs of the county's growing population. The new building includes improved quarantine facilities for cats and quiet kennels for anxious dogs and nursing mothers, and 15 dog kennels with indoor and outdoor spaces for each dog. A sallyport and dedicated intake room will allow staff to receive animals safely and with minimal stress for the animals. Visitors will find a proper lobby to help manage busy days, and a private meet-and-greet room where you can spend time with animals you are considering adopting.
