Notes: Rick, Male, Hound, Approx 2 years and 50 pounds. Rick is a solid guy. Every dog strives to be Rick. He is tall, handsome, and smart, with a good sense of humor. He likes a day out on the town, sniffing everything he can, while he also lures in everyone with his good looks and charm. He has been in the shelter for a few months after being picked up for frolicking on a farm. He would love to frolic in his own home and charm the treats from his new owner.

Rick is always on the move. He loves his toys, especially the busy balls a lovely lady donated to the shelter. Calm with plenty of energy for anyone who wants a turbo charged couch potato. Gets along with the dogs hes been around, not sure about cats but loves kids.

Rick is an absolute gentleman. He is about two years old, great with everyone (human and canine), and would make a great family pet. Rick came to the shelter all skin and bones, but with some good food and love, he is happier and healthier. During our time together, Rick enjoyed sniffing his way around town and meeting the deputies at the courthouse. He did well on leash and made the most out of his adventure.

Our Adoption fee is $20 which includes a microchip and a discount Spay/Neuter/Rabies certificate to Countryside Veterinary Center in Amela (this includes the exam, the surgery and the Rabies vaccine) thanks to a local Non-Profit, APAW (Amelia Patrons for Animal Welfare).

State law requires that anyone adopting a shelter animal must have it spayed/neutered within 30 days of leaving the shelter. Virginia law requires that a sterilization agreement be signed. This agreement states that you will have the adopted animal sterilized within 30 days or by 6 months of age. If you do not live in a surrounding county, the dog or cat will have to be sterilized before it leaves our facility. All our animals come with a microchip and 30 day free trial of pet insurance. All puppies will have been started on vaccines and dewormed, and some of the older dogs have as well, depending on the situation.

For animals that have not been spayed or neutered: adoptions are open to residents of Amelia, Chesterfield, Powhatan, Cumberland, Prince Edward, Nottoway, Dinwiddie County. If an animal is already spayed or neutered then it is available to be adopted by anyone (even out of state residents). Phone to check that the dog is available and what paperwork is required from you.

Make sure that you are able to take your dog home on the day you adopt it. We will not keep a dog for you after its "available" day.
